Camilla Engman is the artist commissioned to design the 2009 festival poster: the woman secretly smoking who graces the cover of the program.
"As soon as I saw Camilla Engman's work, it felt like she would be a dream artist for the festival. It's wonderful that she wants to join the long line of creative and celebrated artists who take on this assignment," says the festival's CEO Åsa Larsson.
Camilla Engman was born in Trollhättan in 1966 and trained at Domen's art school and at the School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg. Animals and people that quietly convey particular emotional moods are a recurring theme in her work, whether it's illustrations, acrylic paintings, mixed media, or kitchen towels. Her clients as an illustrator today include, for example, the New York Times, Google, Converse, and Walt Disney, and she has exhibited in Sweden as well as in the US and Canada, among other places.
"I obviously think it's incredibly fun to get to make the poster. The film festival has always been a great source of inspiration for me — so many characters and stories in one place. A colorful diamond in the middle of the grayest winter. The film festival's posters were among the first things to adorn my wall when I moved out of my parents' house. I always look forward to seeing each year's poster... and now I get to make it myself! It feels amazingly fun!"
